    1. From 1968 to 1972 Will directed the Dartmouth Outward Bound Center From 1972 until his retirement in 2007, he was a building and remodeling contractor in Hanover He s an adopted member of the Dartmouth Class of 1957.In 1981 he began writing a weekly column, A Yankee Notebook, which appears in several New England newspapers He s a commentator or host for Vermont Public Radio and both Vermont and New Hampshire Public Television His annual readings of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol began in 1975 and continue unabated He s published several audio recordings and five books and received an Emmy nomination for one of his pieces on Vermont Public Television.In 1973 Will founded the Geriatric Adventure Society, a group of outdoor enthusiasts whose members have skied the 200 mile Alaska Marathon, climbed in Alaska, the Andes, and Himalayas, bushwhacked on skis through northern New England, and paddled rivers north of the Arctic Circle.He and his wife, Ida, who is the proprietor of a kitchen design business, have been married since 1959 After forty years in New Hampshire, they moved recently to East Montpelier, Vermont They have three children and four grandchildren.


    1. I was introduced to Willem Lange's writing at the annual Snow Walkers meeting in Fairlee, VT where he gave a couple of readings from this book. Like many of the other men there, he was bearded and wool clad and had a fatherly, almost totemic, presence. This is a delightful book full of local New England wit and lore. Like myself, Willem Lange is a fellow New Hampshire import and he lives about an hour away from me. It's a comfort to think about his close proximity's like having my own New Englan [...]


    2. I loved the snapshots of New England life and the emotions I felt reading this book.


    3. I have heard Willem's Favor Johnson story told on VPR at Christmas time nearly every year of my life. This book includes that story and many more about the people and places in New England in the 50s and on. Many of his small snippets (perfect for those of us who are constantly having to put down and pick up books) make you nostalgic for a time that was simpler - when deer camp was a yearly ritual and there were people who actually knew how to build things for themselves instead of buying them.
