    1. This is a great reference book for Jewish Foods or those interested in food history. I has fascinating tidbits about so many Jewish Foods. Like that Israeli falafel so often is made with chickpeas rather than fava beans because 1 in 10 Israeli Jews have favism, a hereditary genetic condition. It's also full of foods that I've never heard of, including foods from the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and even India.

    2. Not that you can just "read" this bookThis is truly an encyclopedia that is a fabulous reference for Jewish recipes and history of Jewish communities throughout the world. You probably will not read this cover-to-cover, unless you have a *lot* of extra time!

    5. I read an excerpt in Ami Magazine. That excerpt covered more in two pages about diaspora cooking than many Jewish cookbooks do. I can't wait to read it@
