drawn into these characters world I love books that present each character s viewpoint to tell the story, so this was definitely a plus for me The best part, though, is that the characters are so real and relatable Many times I found myself thinking, I know that person or I get that I very much appreciated these characters even if their lives were quite different from mine I had a hard time putting thriller with a crazy obsessive stalker anti heroine at its centre one can just about see it as a Patricia Highsmith or Ruth Rendell kind of short story but what Miss Handscombe has written is a self indulgent, wildly improbable, staggeringly starry eyed romance of novel length that takes itself with deadly seriousness The writing is drearily banal and schoolgirlishly immature The author, incidentally, is 40 The observations on celebrity are naive At one point someone expresses surprise that that actors and not only actresses wear make up on TV Even the characters names are silly and unlikely Thom Ebba The novel is crowd funded , i.e self published, which should start warning bells ringing at once One of the ultra laudatory reviews on has been penned bythe author herself telling us that this is a great book which we should not miss I am amazed allows that kind of nonsense The rest of the reviews, I imagine, were written by the author s well meaning friends and obliging associates Or simply by people who wouldn t recognize poor writing if it hit them on the nose Perhaps the author deserves some admiration for tirelessly employing every possible trick and gimmick the internet provides to plug her book free copies given away, Twitter Facebook self promotion, suspenseful count down to book publication date, blogs and interviews and so on flag Like see review Dec 24,
