    2. This is the first collection of poetry that I've ever been able to relate to. Shelby has such a way with words and is able to bring them together beautifully.

    3. Brave collection that will no doubt resonate with many young women. I applaud the author for sharing in such an honest, raw way. It will help others, especially young girls still growing up and becoming who they are. Beautiful cover to boot.

    4. [[4.5 STARS]]okay, omg this collection of poetry was one of the best I have read. I could relate to SO MUCH in it. Normally when I read poetry, there’s a few things I can’t relate to because hey, most of them are about lost love and personal struggles that I personally haven’t been through but this? Every poem hit home for me. It was glorious!

    6. I read this in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. So many affirmations in this collection: it’s okay to love yourself, it’s okay to not love yourself, it’s okay to take time to recover from heartbreak, it’s okay to be fat, and it’s okay to be soft when the world is hard. I just loved this collection. Goosebumps - honestly.

    7. Beautiful words by a beautiful girl. Shelby’s poetry shines like none other. Even though I have edited and reread this collection countless times, it leaves me breathless all the same. Thank you, Shelby, for being brave and letting this piece of yourself into the world.

    8. Good poets are magicians. They put words together about experiences they have in a way that affects a wide audience. Poets strike the soul in a way that most novelists cannot. Shelby is one of these magicians, and she is a damn good one. This poetry collection is amazing. It is strong and filled with truth and heartbreak and amazing messages about body positivity and the absolute beauty of girls. I'm not going to lie. I cried. Multiple times. I related to a lot of the poems, but even the ones I [...]

    9. Everything about this book is beautiful! From the stunning cover to the incredibly truthful descriptions of body image, sexuality and love. Shelby says “I am right here in these words,” and it shows; this book is genuine and real and relatable in so many ways. I feel that it’s easy to like something you see yourself in, but even the poems I didn’t relate to made me feel something, and that’s why this book is so good. This collection has become one of my all time favourites when it come [...]

    10. There is a beautiful honesty to this book; it never once wavers, never slips. Shelby shares herself so openly that you cannot help but feel connected with her through her words. The simplicity of her poems serves as a perfect medium to deliver such stark and unapologetic honesty. She is a poet who is poignant and to-the-point. She's truly a skilled wordsmith, and this little book is sure to touch your heart. It's one of the best I had the pleasure to read in 2017, and I truly cannot wait to see [...]

    11. Disclaimer: I received an ARC for an honest review. Shelby Eileen has a way with words. Here I am, writing this review and I’m in tears. These words hit home for me. This poetry, all of it, is so beautiful. And though some of it hit me hard with memories I would have preferred stayed forgotten, I’m glad I read this. There’s so much that I’m still figuring out about myself. At 26, and I still don’t know, but reading the poems about asexuality certainly help me understand some things abo [...]

    12. Shelby Eileen’s debut poetry book “Soft in the Middle” is not only captivating, but beautifully crafted and written. With often spine-chilling storytelling, she writes of her struggles with mental illness, emotional abuse, and her ever-changing relationship with sex. Shelby’s word are truthful and awe-inspiring, and on nearly every page, I found a piece of myself. I believe there is truly something for everyone in this book, and that it is a must-read for anyone struggling with their own [...]

    13. I really enjoyed reading this collection of poetry! I hadn't read a contemporary poetry collection before this but really liked the excerpts on twitter and decided to give it a try; soft in the middle definitely gave me a good impression of the genre. Shelby's word choices are lovely, and I loved the representation of asexuality within the work. Even for those poems that I didn't relate to, I found them very thought-provoking. The poems showcase Shelby's brave and open writing style, and I'm gla [...]

    14. In light of theRupi Kaur andAmanda Lovelace poetry monopoly, I was under the (false) impression that soft in the middle would be a rehash of the same. Though on paper Eileen's writing does take the shape of new wave poetry, the anthology has a playfulness that was quite new. Perhaps more theatrical than her poetess counterparts, Eileen has captured the microscopic and telescopic all in one and it's beautiful. This is a welcome edition to my poetry collection and I really look forward to more fro [...]

    16. First off, the cover had me at hello! Being a woman that has plenty of soft in the middle, the art on the front cover spoke out to me immediately! But what was even more magical, were the words lying beneath it. Shelby is brilliant. She covers a wide range of topics such as body shaming; mistreatment; love; sex. I mean she covers so much in 149 pages! And I was in awe of it all… I kept flipping the pages until there were none left. This book is one I can find myself reading and rereading and t [...]
