    2. This was a wonderful book that both my child and I truly enjoyed in more ways than one.A lot of the times, it seems like once you get past Dr. Seuss books, authors forget the appeal of having a story told in rhyme. Brook Olbrys didn’t forget this, and as a result, Into the Lead, the third book in the Blue Ocean Bob series, was a pleasure to read and to listen to. The wording is simple enough that kids can easily read it to, though mine seemed to just think it was fun to listen to me and point [...]

It also introduces children to problem solving and encouragement when in doubt. The lessons of the series is to “Think it, See it, Believe it, and Achieve it.”A Journey Begins is book 1 of the series as Bob is introduced. He lives on an island and dreams of something more. Xena, a hummingbird, is his guardian. Bob goes on a quest [...]

    4. This is at least the second book about Blue Ocean Bob, a small boy living on an island in the Sea of Kerchoo and he has a big job. There is a great deal of friendly and sentient sea life in the area and Bob helps to protect it as well as keep the shoreline clean. He works for Mary Marine, so as the story opens Bob has a supervisor. As the book progresses through a series of crises, Bob takes on challenging tasks as well as assumes greater responsibility. The first crisis is triggered by an earthq [...]

    5. This would be a good book to give a young reader who is fascinated with the ocean. Bob is determined to help ocean animals and preserve their habitat. He has ocean friends like Doc (a sea turtle), Al (a dolphin), and Tom (a whale). His constant companion is a hummingbird named Xena. With some supervision by his mentor, Miss Mary Marine, Bob helps to seal a crack in the ocean floor that is causing an oil spill. But when Mary has to leave for Great Lizard Island, Bob must take over his mentor's jo [...]

    7. I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book has a few chapters, which I was not expecting because I apparently didn't read the description very carefully, but they came off more like short stories than chapters to me. It was a nice way to break the story up into a few different days of reading with my mini-me because her attention span is limited. The whole book is written with rhymes, and they flow really well for the most part (there were a couple [...]

    8. kachildrensbookreviewsspoWe received this book to give an honest review. I love these books and this story is no different. The pictures are done so well and are so colorful they go great with what is being told to us. In this book we get a great lesson through rhyming. You see Bob has a mentor named Mary who along with the other marine life help Bob with accidents that happen. So when Mary gets called away Bob is worried he won't be able to do a good job. He steps up to the plate though and tri [...]

    9. Blue Ocean Bob is back again, working for Mary Marine by protecting the sea life and combating pollution. Along with his hummingbird guardian, Xena, Bob is greeted one morning by Al the dolphin, who has terrible news. An earthquake has caused a crack in the ocean floor, allowing oil to spill uncontrollably into the area. Although he is frightened, Bob receives good advice from his animal friends about how to face a challenge and combat fear. When other issues arise due to the quake, Bob must lea [...]

    11. This is the fourth Blue Ocean Bob book but you do not need to read the others to enjoy this one. This is a cute early chapter book that late primary and early junior would be able to read independently. The books take place on the tropical island on the sea of Kerchoo, where Bob and his boss Molly Marine help the animals and the environment. In this volume with the help of the head animals, Bob plugs and oil leak, saves a beached shark, rescues some dolphins and begins to train Mary`s niece Moll [...]

    12. Written in a delightful cadence, this book will be a favorite to read aloud at storytime. The first adventure is really an emergency. Bob is called upon to save the day and doubts his readiness. Can he do what is needed even when he feels a little bit afraid? When Bob thinks he'll have a moment to catch his breath, another messenger tells him he is still needed. What can one small boy do when someone older and with more muscle can't solve the problem? A nice story about teamwork and imagination.Th [...]

There is so much for him to do and with Mary away will he be able to handle it all? This is a cute little picture book series. Bob grows in each story and in this one he has a very big job. My favorite part of this series is that it teaches children that even when you have doubts or fears don’t give up keep trying. You never know what you are c [...]

    14. Blue Ocean Bob does it again! In the third installment of the series Bob is once again asked to help his friends and the inhabitants of the Sea of Kerchoo. There is an earthquake and it is up to Bob to help find a solution. Bob is helped by a turtle, whale, walrus, and even sharks with problems that come up due to the earthquake. Brooks finds a wonderful, lyrical way to tell stories of Bob and his friends. I especially like the rhyming of Tom and calm! This is a great book for early chapter book [...]

    16. White children helping anthropomorphic animals in a tropical island. The animals can think, and talk, but have to have the direction of Blue Ocean Bob, a white boy, to help them solve their problems. Colonialism anyone?I know, I know, I am reading too much into this early chapter book. But I really didn't care about any of the characters, and even less about the setting. Sure the colors are bright and beautiful. Isn't it nice that Bob can solve all the problems, and grow because of it.But, why is [...]

    17. I received this book for the purpose of a fair review.Overview: Blue Ocean Bob may be getting the hang of being a marine scientist, but is he really ready to take the reins of such a job? When his mentor--Mary Marine--is called away to another island for a serious situation, Bob has to prove to himself and the rest of the island that he has what it takes.Likes: Mr. Olbrys doesn’t sugar-coat his advice to the children. That is something that I think really sells this series. Encourage them to t [...]

    20. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was a fun book with engaging visuals and plot points that encouraged working together while being environmentally conscious. This was a cute story that illustrates how together a group can accomplish most anything. Though this is focused on environmental examples, it is an important lesson for children to learn and this illustrates it well. I think that this will be a lovely series.
