    5. A couple of cool things about this book: it's part of a series, yesbut each book has a different main character. That main character is a birdwatcher of some sort and that is what ties the series together. The other cool thing is that it is set in Denver area and I recognized a lot of the locations. Felt a bit of a kinship and learned a lot about the area that I hadn't realized in the decade + I've lived here. If a comparison could be made, it would be to Kathy Reichs' "Temperance Brennan" books [...]

    6. I had no idea that there was a species of burrowing owls who imitate the sound of a rattle snake to keep would-be predators away. These owls play a special role in the unraveling of this avian who-done-it. The discussion on native American ceremonial practices and who has rights to own remains of certain protected species is interesting and informative. The twists and turns of this police procedural keep the reader guessing right through to the very end. This may be my first introduction Christi [...]

    7. I picked up this book at the library because of one of my daughter interest in owls and that she lives just North of Denver near where the action takes place. It is a relatively good mystery and short (153 pages). I did not like the aggressive environmental nature of the main character nor do I like the restrictive nature of who gets onto parts of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Refuge. Reserved for the environmental mafia. Where I come from bald eagles are one of the most common birds after ravens. [...]

    9. A Parliament of Owls (A Birdwatcher's Mystery)Christine GoffAstor+Blue Editions2015An Early Reviewers book. The 6th book in a series, this book is a light and quick mystery to read about a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Special agent that discovers a dead body among the gopher holes that the Burrowing Owls inhabit. The writing is tight, and the plot proceeds quickly. Unlike most mysteries, I did not pick out the murderer before the book was half finished. I would read another book by Christine Goff.3 1/ [...]
