    2. Jil, a private investigator, returns to her beloved foster mother Elise's house upon her death to arrange for her funeral and settle her affairs. But something isn't quite right. Someone is impersonating Jil and taking off with Elise's jewelry. Her house feels like it's been broken into but nothing valuable is missing.except, perhaps, a fake painting. And where did Elise, an art history professor, get all the money she'd left to Jil? Worse, Jil has had to deal with her grief, the funerals and ev [...]

    3. I started off this book so confused. Totally my fault, I had no clue that this was actually a sequel. I read about 30% off the book, before I realized that something was off and I was clearly in the dark about certain aspects of the two main characters and their lives. So I stopped and purchased Uncatholic Behavior, read it, and started Illicit Artifacts again. What a dork! What’s not dorky is this book. This book is damn good. It’s a mystery that is tangled in so many ways, that at times I f [...]

    4. I've been looking forward to continue reading the story of of Jill and Jess, and been almost waiting for a year for this book!Reading the synopsis, I pondered a bit if I'd like this one, but turns out it's been really really good. The story opens with Jill attending her foster mother Elise's funeral. Everything looks normal until Jill discovered that one of the paintings in Elise's apartment was being switched out - from then on unfolds the mystery of Elise's life and all her art pieces. On para [...]

    6. Jil’s foster mother Elise has passed away and left Jil her estate. Elise was a college professor, and Jil was prepared to inherit a modest amount. But when she finds out that Elise’s legacy totals 3.5 million dollars—and that the many “replica” art objects that Elise owned were all valuable originals—she fears that Elise may have been involved in some shady deals. She is not sure she wants to know about them, but when some of the objects are stolen, she is forced to investigate. Ther [...]

    7. P.I. Jil is mourning the loss of her foster mother after she loses her battle with a long-standing illness when she is thrust into mixing her personal life with her professional life. Her investigation opens up a big can of worms; did Elise really succumb to her illness, who is impersonating Jil-what are they trying to find? How did Elise come to possess a priceless Monet? While reeling from these revelations about her foster mom, Jil also has to deal with the complicated relationship with her c [...]

    8. I don't know if it was me and just not giving this my full attention but I felt this book was lacking not like I had liked the first one. Jess was missing in much of this and the plot just wasn't making me wanting to intrench in what I was reading. I ended up skipping pages, maybe once the holidays are over I will go back and read this again.

    9. Enjoyed this almost as much as the first. A good deal of angst. Got to know a little more of the back stories. The characters developed more. Hopefully that means we can look forward to more from Jil!

    10. Excellent Book 2 in the seriesIllicit Artifacts is a great follow-up to Uncatholic Conduct. Like the first book, this is both a mystery and a romance. It continues the story of Jess and Jil, exploring their deepening relationship and examining how the priorities we set, often ripple through our lives in unexpected ways. I found the main characters very likeable and easy to relate to. There's a lot going on in this story, with several layers to sort through in unraveling the mystery. I especially [...]

    11. This story centred around Jil and a fascinating mystery involving her foster mother's shady past, art theft and some very interesting characters who were not always what they seemed. Certain inconsistencies led her to start investigating, and as a PI she was well able to take on the task. I enjoyed the unravelling of the mystery and it was well told and full of surprises.Jil's relationship with Jess, an in-the-closet Catholic School Principal, was tense and touching and I didn't know where it wa [...]
