    1. This is, without a doubt, in the top five 'indie' books I've ever read, and one of the best books I've read in a few years, full stop.Right. I don't like Sci-Fi. I have zero interest in spaceships and mutant beings. I do, however, love the whole post-apocalyptic thing, which is what made me want to read this book, as well as its excellent title. I am so glad I made that choice!Basic plot: a motley crew of soldiers are sent from one planet to save the president of a second planet. President has l [...]

    2. The Dead Lands by Dylan J Morgan was my first experience with his writing and I loved it. The Dead Lands is a story that takes place 100 years after the apocalypse, which in this case is a nuclear war on the planet Hemera. On the sister planet of Erebus our main character Lane and a small group go on a rescue mission to Hemera to investigate a signal from the president from a 100 years ago. They believe they are to find the former president and help him restore his world. This is what they are t [...]

    3. ARC provided by author for an honest reviewThe Dead Lands, Dylan J. Morgan's latest novel, is the tale of two sister planets, Hemera and Erebus. Lane is a bounty hunter for the corrupt government of Erebus, tracking down criminals marked for death by the government after being kicked out of the military following a horrific accident. A botched assignment finds him charged with murder and he is given an ultimatum by his former commander Colonel Paden - rejoin the army for a covert mission to Heme [...]

    4. Dylan J. Morgan's new book is so exciting you won't put it down. Set in the future, after a Nuclear war ravages Hemera, her sister planet,Erebus, sends the best of the best to recover the president. Dylan's monsters are unlike any other's,and his endings have me in tears. You have to read this book.If you've never read Morgan's work this is the book to start with. (Unless you love vampires, Blood War is where you'd start.)

    5. A fun, fast-paced mash-up of dystopian, military/sci-fi and horror genres, The Dead Lands by Dylan J. Morgan (@dylanjmorgan) reminded me a lot of a summer action movie, perfect for a beach read or plane trip. I received an advance review copy of the novel from the author. The novel will be available for sale on Aug. 1, 2014. One hundred years after a nuclear war devastates the planet Hemera, a distress signal is received on the other planet in the system, Erebus. A small team of hand-picked sold [...]

    7. The story begins on the planet Hemera, in the capital city of Magna, where the president, his family and key members of his staff are being cryogenically frozen before Hemera is completely destroyed by a nuclear war. A century later, on Erebus, a distress signal is received from Hemera. A small group of operatives are chosen to travel to Hemera to investigate, find the President and help to restore the planet. Intelligence reports state the planet is uninhabited and barren, without the existence [...]

    8. I’ve read some fabulous reviews about this book and so was eager to get my hands on it, but none of these reviews prepared me for what I was about to read.I’m already a huge Dylan Morgan fan; his horror books are not to be read without a light on, and his novella, October Rain, was an explosive sci-fi novella. With the promise of a sequel to The Dead Lands on the horizon, I jumped at the chance to read this post-apocalyptic thriller.Lane is a bounty hunter and not afraid to live his life as [...]

    9. 'The Dead Lands' is the story of government enforcer Lane as he is sent off with a team of soldiers on a rescue mission to a reportedly uninhabited planet. On arrival they find out they are not alone and that's when the trouble begins. The planet the characters are sent to is a dangerous place and it's not long before they find this out. The story is fairly fast-paced and there is plenty of action and horror as well as a bit of romance, all of which combine to make this a gripping and thoroughly [...]

    10. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This a decent military adventure set on a supposedly dead planet. It takes it a while to get going, but it's not boring as the build up is interesting. There's a good mix of characters although the only real flaw in the book is that the bulk of them aren't developed in any meaningful way. The main characters work well though and the pace of the story means it's not a big issue anyway. There's a horror element to the story which [...]

    12. A futuristic nightmare, where you can’t trust anybody. This review is written on behalf of Rosie’s Books Review Team. Thanks to Rosie Amber and to the author, Dylan J. Morgan for offering me a free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.I recently read and reviewed another one of Dylan Morgan’s novels Flesh, a horror novel, and I was impressed by the book. Another member of the review team (hi, Terry!) recommended The Dead Lands and I took note. The author is preparing the se [...]

    13. I decided to read this book in preparation to review the second in this series, based on a terrific review by a fellow blogger. I was so taken with it, I decided to review this one as well. This book is a really wrenching description of the future of mankind in its third age, and as a result, I really don’t want to know how we got to a third age!The story opens lovingly, with the President of Hemera injecting his wife and children with a drug that will let them sleep away the next hundred years [...]

    15. Oh, I wanted to love this book. It looked perfect. Mutants, science-fiction, post-apocalyptic setting… I’d seen great reviews, too. Unfortunately, The Dead Lands was a dud for me. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate it. I just didn’t feel anything for or towards it. It evoked no emotions. It never aroused my curiosity, never made me think. It was technically a science fiction novel in part because it was based on a different planet, but it wasn’t really based on a different planet. Apar [...]

Lane, a government hit man, is forced into a military mission to Hemera to find and rescue the president. Lane is thrown into the mix with twenty other soldiers, many of whom despise him–including a former love interest.Told the planet was uninhabited—no life existed—the soldiers stepped foot on its surface to find they [...]

    17. I’m a sucker for a story that doesn’t hold back. The Dead Lands not only takes you to the edge, you can feel that edge crumbling beneath your feet—and you love it!This vivid, action packed tale follows Lane, a more than capable bounty hunter on the planet Erebus. A former soldier, Lane lost everything (including his girl) after being blamed for a terrible tragedy. When he’s pulled back into the army for an assignment that takes him off world to the apocalyptic planet Hemera, the phrase [...]

    18. If you love science fiction, or not, you have to read this book. I want you to picture that you’re the president of a planet that is in the middle of a nuclear war. Everything and everyone is sure to die form the blast or the nuclear fallout. You, your family and some of your closet cabinet member are frozen in cryogenics for 100 year to rebuild after the fall out danger is gone. Now one hundred years later a neighboring planet gets the distress call to come get you and a man who was jouste [...]

Lane is a trained soldier, turned bounty hunter after being discharged dishonourably from the army but they want him back for a special operation and blackmail him in to taking his place with the other elite soldiers. Sent to Hemera on a mission to save the cryogenically frozen President in accordance with the agreement made a hundred years earlier between the two planets, Lane finds himself in a post-nuclear world where what is left isn't planning to serve tea and cakes to their neighbours. 20. Another Dylan J.Morgan book - another thrilling read! A combination of sci-fi, horror, and post-apocalyptic elements, The Dead Lands is a gritty, action-packed novel. From the beginning, the reader knows the mission to Hemera is expected to fail and it doesn't take long for the characters to realize the same thing - but that doesn't stop them from fighting for survival, making it easy to root for most of them. Some, I was rooting for the mutants to tear into. The novel is full of conflict - not o [...]

    21. The Dead Lands is a fascinating look into the aftermath of global nuclear war, military despotism, hope, and despair through the lens of a science fiction thriller.Full of action and gore, this isn’t a story for the weak of stomach. Lane has been framed for murder because he followed orders and now works as a bounty hunter, until he gets set up yet again and sent with a small group of other soldiers from Erebus to rescue the President of Hemera.Overall, it’s a delightful series of disasters, [...]

    22. I admit, I’m behind the times when it comes to apocalyptic fiction. In fact, this is the third post-apocalyptic book I’ve read, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not fascinated (and terrified) by the idea.Morgan paints the scene beautifully. ‘The Dead Lands’ is what the once lush and prospering planet Hemera is now called. Sand and grit covers everything. The planet is a baking, yellow ball of misery and I would never, ever want to go there. This book is like a movie, packed with action, [...]

    23. The Dead Lands is a fantastic fusion of action/adventure, sci-fi, horror, and thriller. It almost deserves its own genre! I found the book to be an exquisitely detailed page-turner that kept me riveted until the end. Dylan’s unusual treatment of his protagonist was a pleasant surprise and his post-apocalyptic world, writ large in horrifying, bloody letters, has a tendency to pull you in and refuse to let go. Highly recommended to all my horror and dystopian universe fans! For anyone thinking a [...]
